AI Policy for AuthorPackages

At AuthorPackages, we believe in delivering high-quality, custom-designed book covers that are crafted with skill, precision, and artistic integrity. As part of our commitment to ethical design, we want to be fully transparent about how AI-generated assets may (or may not) be used in our work.

Our Approach to AI in Design

We do not use AI-generated images as a shortcut to replace human creativity. Specifically, we do not:

  • Use AI to generate a complete artwork and then simply add typography.
  • Rely on AI-generated images as standalone designs.
  • Pass off AI-generated images as fully original creations.

Instead, we follow a traditional photomanipulation approach. Every book cover we design is a composite of multiple stock images—sometimes up to thirty—meticulously blended to achieve a unique, professional result. Our process involves careful selection, manual editing, and artistic vision to construct the final image that aligns with our client’s needs.

When AI-Generated Assets May Be Used

While we do not generate full AI artworks, we acknowledge that AI can be a useful tool when stock imagery cannot meet a specific request. For example:

  • If a client needs a spacecraft of a highly specific design that does not exist in stock libraries, an AI-generated element may be considered as part of the overall composition.
  • If a scene requires historical accuracy (e.g., a modern village reimagined as it appeared in the 1800s), AI may assist in reconstructing such an environment based on reference materials.
  • Where necessary, AI-generated elements may be used as one component within a larger, manually created composition, rather than as the sole foundation of the design.

Client Preferences & Transparency

We respect our clients’ preferences regarding AI usage. If a client requests that no AI-generated assets be used in the creation of their book cover, we will fully honour that request. This extends to tools like Photoshop’s generative fill, which we will avoid if the client prefers a strictly traditional approach.

However, it is important to note that stock image providers do not always disclose whether an image contains AI-generated elements. While we source from reputable stock libraries, we cannot guarantee that all images are 100% AI-free unless it is explicitly stated by the stock provider. If AI-generated elements within stock imagery are a concern, we encourage clients to communicate their preferences in advance so we can take extra care in selection.

Ethical Considerations

Our stance on AI is rooted in maintaining the integrity of our design process. AI can be a powerful tool, but it should not replace the skill, effort, and artistic decision-making that go into professional design. By using AI responsibly—only as a supplement when absolutely necessary—we ensure that our covers remain unique, high-quality, and aligned with our creative philosophy.
