After the outbreak came the nuclear war. The blasts killed millions. Chaos followed. Most of those unlucky enough not to succumb to starvation and disease joined the ranks of the living dead.
Fleeing the impossible nightmare, a few reached the coast. Some made it to sea. Ten thousand, from nations across the Atlantic seaboard, found refuge on the Welsh island of Anglesey. There, they should have been safe. There, they should have been able to rebuild. There, they were betrayed.
Forced to flee once more, a hasty exodus was planned, but those plans were sabotaged. The survivors became scattered across the island of Ireland. Old world stocks of food are scarce, ammunition is scarcer, and safety is just a memory. The snow has come, and though rain will soon follow, winter has truly begun.
In Dundalk, eight hundred survivors have occupied a local college, but the campus is too dispersed to defend. As they search the snow-covered town for a safe route to the sea, they find signs of other survivors. During the search for clues as to where they went, they find answers to a question they hadn’t asked.
In Belfast, the situation is increasingly precarious. There are saboteurs in their midst. As the investigation into their identity slowly progresses, the terrorists continue to plot. Rumours of a mutiny escalate into a riot, while an unseen clock ticks ever closer towards humanity’s destruction.
Finding myself in sudden need of a cover for a long-running series, I stumbled across Author Packages. I can’t speak more highly of their work. Having contacted them on a Tuesday, I had a finished cover on Friday. Their team was a delight to work with.
Working to a specific and complex brief, they produced a wonderfully eye-catching cover. Not only does it perfectly capture the mixture of desperation and hope within the novel, but they paid particular attention to the very smallest details (I love the footprints in the snow!)
They were courteous and professional at all times, providing quick and detailed replies to every query, and numerous options on the images to be used, as well as a thorough explanations as to why some combinations of character and background would be less effective.
In fact, I was so pleased with this cover, I’ve already asked Author Packages to begin work on the next. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
